Marvel Studios released some new posters for Captain America: The Winter Solider through Yahoo Movies today, and they’re… interesting.
Let’s start with this image of Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow. So far, this image has been pretty much ridiculed on the internet since it went up as an example of what happens when you let bad photoshop into your heart. From elongated arms to overemphasis on upper body highlighting to the doll’s eyes stare, poor Natasha seems like a non-entity here- just something to be looked at, not taken seriously. Even though she’s got those guns.
Contrast with this image of Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury. Commanding. Leaning forward. Pensive. Ready to bite your head off- hopefully verbally. It sums up the character pretty well, and shows us all we really need to know about him, if we hadn’t seen him already. He’s the boss, the guy in charge, and he means business.
Let’s finish with these TWO for Chris Evans as the good Captain Rogers. As I understand, one is a UK release. Both show a feeling of reflection, of thoughtfulness that some don’t usually associate with Captain America. He can be a brooding, lonely figure. This image doesn’t overdo it, and serves much better than the glory shot of Widow to showcase a side seldom seen of the Sentinel of Liberty.
That being said, Cap gets two nearly identical posters while The Falcon gets none? Let’s hope he’s more prominent in the film than he is in the ad media.
Poor, poor Falcon.
*Just In!*
Another poster- this time with all 3 of the previously released characters- but again using the awful Widow photoshop AND STILL no Falcon!
