Associated Geekery Episode #40

“As soulless as the rest of us white men.”

Lupita Nyong’o – A possible candidate for Jedi training?

It’s Episode #40 of the Associated Geekery Podcast! Carrie is back from Jamaica, tanned and ready to join Ryan and Doc to talk geek news of the week!

Carrie dives right in, bringing us news from the world of books: authors banding together to fight bullying on Amazon reviews, the Hugo Awards gain and then lose comedian Jonathan Ross due to critical outcry, and a timeline of Vera Nazarian’s misdeeds in the world of publishing with Norliana Books.

Next, we move on to convention news, where Oni Press announces cosplayer-friendly penalty cards to combat con harassment!

In gaming news, we discuss QCF’s design changes for their upcoming game Desktop Dungeons, another artist confronts Feminist Frequency over unauthorized use of artwork, and Sony announces a price-hike for PS4s in Canada?

We move to movie news next, with the utterly disappointing- yet utterly unsurprising- news of Hollywood white-washing Tigerlily for WB’s new Peter Pan film with special mention of Felicia Day’s take on the uproar over it, and some great news on the broadening of casting for Star Wars VII

Finally, in comics- we discuss Diamond Distributor’s use of “secret shoppers” and the outrageous things they discover.

For recommendations, we have a new expansion for the card game Smash-Up, an all new online card game in Blizzard’s Hearthstone, and for those with a romantic side, the novel Grave Mercy.
