Civil War II: Depressing Boogaloo

Welcome back to Associated Geekery! Here’s an Episode #109 for you!

A bit of news to go over:

Comics- Artist Chip Zdarsky has politely declined both his nomination and awarding of a Harvey Award for his work on Sex Criminals- owing to the fact that he did not create the book in a vacuum.

In a turn of events, it seems that our friends over at The Devastator will be ceasing monthly production of that title to focus on smaller, individual titles.

Just when you thought the All-New, All-Different Marvel lineup couldn’t get any better- they’ve announced a new Black Widow series with the Daredevil team of Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Matt Wilson and Joe Caramagna! This one has us super excited!

But- proving every silver lining comes with it’s own gloomy cloud- Marvel seems to be teasing (or threatening, your choice) comic shops with “Civil War II”. We are not as excited about this.

In Movie news- rumor has it that Marvel Studios is in talks with “What We Do In The Shadows” scribe/director Taika Waititi to helm “Thor: Ragnarok”. If true, the New Zealander would be Marvel’s first director of color- and very second former vampire. So, they’ve got that going for them.

Marvel is also making news in TV land- with ABC ordering a script for the seemingly-irreverent “Damage Control” as a half-hour workplace comedy. Can this work in the shadow of the cinematic universe, and the already existing shows?

And finally, in the “life imitates art” file, Seattle-based IRL crimefigher Phoenix Jones is in the news again, this time possibly saving the life of a mugging victim, and holding the criminals at bay. What this friendly neighborhood watchman does may be overly dramatic, but every once in a while, good things come of it.

Our Recommendations this week include: LEGO Ideas Doctor Who and Undertale.
